They've modified their policy (I believe from last October) where Vintage devices are eligible for service with repair parts. However, your MacBook Pro is on Apple's "Vintage" list. I would prefer an OEM battery since there seem to be issues with most aftermarket replacements. However, Apple's official policy is that the battery should only be serviced by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The battery is replaceable, and a fairly simple thing to do with the correct tools.
